Al McGovern has engineered products and built strong mechanical engineering teams in 6 different industries at 7 different companies in 6 states over the past 40 years. During that time, he’s used many prototyping methods in both Research and in Product Development efforts. These include everything from balsa wood to 3DP to Bridge Tooling; since 1991, he’s used 3DP equipment from 3D Systems, Stratasys, EOS (metal), DTM, Z-Corp, Carbon, Markforged, Desktop Metal, Formlabs and HP. He has learned to recognize the importance of matching the proper prototyping method to the anticipated need or outcome. He is the Director of Mechanical Engineering at Shure Incorporated and, more importantly, is happily married to Mary Jo since 1982. They have 3 married children and a 19 month old grandson, and have called Naperville home since 1997.
